well Wildwood Beach is buzzing today with last minute preparations ahead of a campaign rally on Saturday with former president Donald Trump who's taking a break from his hush money trial in Manhattan to head down the Garden State Parkway to one of New Jersey's favorite Seaside Resorts the Republican Enclave is no stranger to hosting this sort of event tens of thousands of trump supporters packed the Wildwood convention center on a bitter January day back in 2020 the mayor said he's taken politics out of the equation because this rally is expected to draw an even larger crowd and big profits for local businesses Ted Goldberg has the latest from the beach with less than 24 hours until tomorrow's Trump rally in Wildwood workers are moving around speakers and setting up a sufficient number of American flags mayor Ernie Triano JR says 20,000 people have requested tickets and preparing for those numbers gener generally isn't an issue this is a little different because of the security concerns uh secret service has a lot of Demands of whiches are necessary and it's takes time for us to accommodate some of those but this is nothing for us to handle we we're good at this miday isn't the busiest time of year for Wildwood but businesses are hoping to cash in on Trump supporters mayor Triano who is a republican says unlicensed vendors won't be allowed to sell merch by the beach in a move to protect local business owners I think it's going to be a quite a quite a shot in the arm in a time where we would not get that kind of additional revenues the summers in Wildwood this a tour season basically it's Fourth of July to about second third week of August because schools are opening early colleges are opening early and the some of the schools are not getting out late so there's not a big a a large number of days that these people can make their their income trano says the last Trump rally in Wildwood brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic impact if not Millions for small businesses in 2020 to the surprise of no one state Democrats see tomorrow's rally a little differently you will see a lot of people coming from outside our state because here inside our state we know that Trump filed for bankruptcy five times um that he really undermined the economic viability of Atlantic City I think it's an affront to our state and the values that we have in New Jersey that he's going to be here congressman Frank palone held a press conference today to denounce Trump's policies and criticize him for not committing to accept the results of this year's election when you try to shut down people's abilities to vote when you try to say that even though they've gone through the process and someone's elected that you're not going to recognize that election you are basically against democracy you become a tyrant as to what Trump will speak about tomorrow that's anyone's guess he's going to spread lies likely tomorrow that we've heard him say before about the benefits of offshore wind um not being real but they are and and and places are realizing those like we have with solar to help reduce pollution and protect our oceans Ben dorin at Rowan says the biggest news will be who Trump supports and who he insults how does the New Jersey Republican party look uh who makes up the New Jersey Republican party uh at this day age in this era of Donald Trump's dominance over the national Republican party dworin also says Trump's choice of Wildwood is strategic Kate May County gave Trump his third highest vote share of any New Jersey County in the last election it's close to Pennsylvania a swing state and it gives Trump a break from fighting 34 felonies in Manhattan what better way after going through a rough week of testimony than to go down to the Jersey Shore in front of an adoring crowd on conserv New Jersey radio host Bill spia show today Trump said New Jersey is in play for him this November despite him losing the state by 16 points in 2020 if that's the case tomorrow's rally could be a big opportunity for his campaign in Wildwood I'm Ted Goldberg NJ Spotlight news [Music]
