THEN IN THE 10th GRADE BECAUSE OF MY INTEREST IN CARNIVAL, MY FATHER TOOK ME TO TRINIDAD AND FROM THERE, THAT WAS IT.

IS THAT DELIBERATE?

WE TRY TO AVOID BIKINI AND WE USE ONE PIECE.
FOR THE OLDER PIECE WE HAVE LIKE A SHEER SKIRT.

FIRST YOU IDENTIFY A PATTERN AND CHOOSE WHAT MATERIALS YOU´RE GOING TO PUT ON IT AND HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT THINKING ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE COSTUME?
>> FIRST OF ALL, YOU HAVE TO COME UP WITH THE DESIGN.
AS A DESIGNER, GET THE SKETCHES.
AFTER WE HAVE DONE THE SKETCHES, WE AGREE ON IT, WE THEN MAKE TEMPLATES FOR THE PROTOTYPE, WHICH IS A SAMPLE COSTUME.
WE DO A PHOTO SHOOT AND YOU PRESENT IT TO THE PUBLIC.
AFTER THAT FOR MASS PRODUCTION.

I TOOK MY FASHION DESIGN ABILITY AND APPLIED IT TO COSTUME DESIGN.

I DON´T THINK YOU CAN PUT EVERYTHING IN THE SAME BUCKET TO SAY THAT THE GENERATION DOESN´T HAVE AN APPRECIATION.
I THINK SOME PEOPLE HAVEN´T BEEN EXPOSED TO THE CULTURAL ASPECT OF IT.
THE REAL REBELLIOUS SIDE OF CARNIVAL, THE ORIGIN AND SO I THINK IT MAY BE LACK OF AWARENESS, A LACK OF EDUCATION BUT NOT NECESSARILY THAT THEY´RE JUST NOT, YOU KNOW, IN TUNE.
